Birthday Freebie: Mystery Solved!

Remember a couple weeks ago when I wrote about the Cheeseburger In Paradise Birthday Freebie Mystery? Well, the mystery has finally been solved! Today they emailed me a Buy One Entree Get One Free coupon. I love this! I got a B1G1 coupon for signing up, and now another one for my birthday. Very generous! I also love that it is good for a month following my birthday, not just for that one day. I think that is fabulous...there are only so many birthday freebies you can indulge in on your actual birthday! Birthday Freebie: Dairy Queen Blizzard...Sort Of

I'm a few days behind on my series of Birthday Freebie posts. With the big day rapidly approaching (Friday), I'm trying to get back on track. I was very excited when I received an email from Dairy Queen with the subject line: Happy Birthday! Enjoy a Blizzard on us. The first sentence says "The only thing better than a Birthday Blizzard treat...is a free Birthday Blizzard treat." At the bottom of the email is a link that says "Free Mini, 12 oz. or 16 oz. Blizzard". So, naturally I click on it excited to print my coupon for a free birthday Blizzard!

Well, it's not actually a coupon for a free Blizzard, despite all of the references to such in the email. It is actually a coupon for a free Mini, 12 oz. or 16 oz. Blizzard when you buy a 16 oz. Blizzard. As you know, I love a good buy one get one free coupon as much as the next person. But, come on Dairy Queen! Don't send out an email offering a "free" Blizzard on your birthday that isn't actually free. Call it what it really is...a buy one get one free coupon.

I really don't mean to sound like a complainer, but it seems more and more companies are dangling the coupon carrot and then fail to deliver. How many Facebook coupon campaigns have failed miserably to meet the demand? And of course, there is the great KFC free chicken debacle that is now the subject of a class action lawsuit. McDonald's successfully (in my opinion) more than made up for canceling an in-store free sample event. Maybe I'll use this Dairy Queen coupon on my birthday and maybe I'll just shred it on principal....the jury is still out.

Birthday Freebie: Cheeseburger in Paradise Mystery

Even though my local Cheeseburger in Paradise has been open for a few years now, I've never been there. That is until last night....what a fool I've been.  We made a spur of the moment decision to go out to dinner, and were determined to try someplace new. Oh how we were rewarded for those choices! 

It was a gorgeous night in the Chicagoland area, so the outside seating area was buzzing. We opted to sit inside as there was a 7 year old in our little group. The Connoisseur makes it a point to read the entire  dinner, drink and dessert menus whenever she goes somewhere new. On the drink menu I found something called the Summer Watermelon Glacier  that was just too tempting not to try. I have to tell you, this is hands down one of the best cocktails I have ever had in my life. It is made with SKYY Infusions Citrus, Midori Melon Liqueur, strawberry puree, watermelon flavor and sweet & sour. It was beyond phenomenal!

After a wonderful appetizer (I recommend you try the warm pretzels with spicy cheese dip!) I opted to "create my own dinner". I went with the 10 oz. boneless chicken wing appetizer and a side of Island Rice. The portions were more than generous, and I can't even think of a word to describe how good the teriyaki sauce I chose for my chicken was. I won't bore you with all of the details of the entire meal. But I will tell you this, for 2 adults and 1 child including appetizers and that fabulous drink was under $45.00! The Connoisseur's budget is loving Cheeseburger in Paradise!

If you're wondering when I'm getting to the birthday freebie already....here it is.  With our check came a little one page "brochure" suggesting we join the Island Hopper Club. When you become an Island Hopper, you get all kinds of great perks:

You can opt to give them your cell phone number and receive text messages from them. Should you opt in you will also get a free appetizer just for joining. I'm already getting mobile coupons texted to me from Target, and rental codes from Redbox, so I'm thinking what the heck...why not? Those warm pretzels would make it soooo worth it!
